The Video Platform Offers Users Authority to Decrease AI-Generated Videos in Their Feeds

TikTok is introducing a fresh option that enables them to reduce the amount of AI-made media appearing in their feeds. This move comes as the company revealed that it presently contains over 1 billion AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is being tested over the following weeks before a global release. This development comes amid a rise in AI content, spurred by emerging AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that almost 10% of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a competing service only show AI-generated videos. A large amount of this output is deemed mass-produced AI material, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is typically nonsensical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content created using AI tools, ranging from digital art to science explainers, and we intend to give people the power to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own choices,” stated a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The service shared that there are now 1.3bn videos on its service labeled as made with AI. Collectively, more than 100 m media items are submitted to the service every day, making AI content a relatively small percentage of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be able to decrease or raise the amount of artificial media they view by accessing the topic control feature in the platform and selecting “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that are already be modified under the filter include news, clothing, aesthetics, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

Its policies mandate users to tag convincing artificially created content, and it forbids malicious AI impersonations of public figures or critical incidents. Any realistic artificial content that is not labeled can be taken down under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the app will from now on apply an AI-generated watermark to content created with its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing content made by AI. This measure is designed to help prevent users from attempting to evade the tagging system.

Educational Initiatives

The platform is also launching a $2m AI literacy fund for specialists and organizations to develop learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will benefit non-profit groups focused on educating coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has justified its content review process, following debate over intentions to cut jobs for a large number of safety staff in the United Kingdom. It is planning to reduce 439 jobs in its user protection department in the UK capital, with labor groups and online safety experts expressing worry that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that people-led review would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by filtering out the most graphic content ahead of it has to be seen by people. The company stated a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by safety staff over the last 12 months due to reliance on its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with harmful content as swiftly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is really helping us operate efficiently.”
